Arteta praises loanee Odegaard’s leadership qualities
Odegaard, on loan from Real Madrid, ran the midfield like a boss as his playmaking qualities were influential behind the result and a treat to watch.
When asked if Odegaard is a leader in the squad, Arteta replied:
“Well, he’s showing that I think from week one.
“The way he steps on the pitch, he always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing. He’s been really influential.
“I think we’ve all been a bit surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he steps on that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football.”
Lacazette blames his teammates for the defensive horror show.
Though Gunners might have secured a late draw against West Ham, it didn’t stop them from receiving sticks for their disastrous first-half performance.
Gunners went 3-0 down inside 17 minutes of the first half due to shambolic defence, which eventually drew the ire of Arteta.
Alexandre Lacazette, who scored the decisive late goal, has said that he and his teammates let down Arteta in the first half.
“The feeling is mixed because I’m proud of my team for coming back in the second half and disappointed with the first half.
We didn’t respect the game plan of the coach. This is not what we wanted but we have to think about it.”
