Chelsea Update: Mount to be the centre-piece of Tuchel’s Chelsea, Havertz to rediscover himself in new role

Chelsea mount remarkable comeback in 3-3 draw vs West Brom

Mason Mount to be the centre-piece of Tuchel’s Chelsea project

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has established himself as a key player for manager Thomas Tuchel since the German took over from Frank Lampard.

The 22 year old was dropped from the starting lineup for Tuchel’s first game in charge of the Blues but he has started every single game for the London site since then.

The  English midfielder is undoubtedly one of the most talented young footballers in the Premier League right now and he has been quite impressive for Chelsea this season. It would be fair to say that he has been the most consistent player for the Blues this year.

When Chelsea decided to sign the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz, there were doubts about whether Mount would be able to sustain his first-team berth. However the 22 year old has managed to out-perform all of his midfield rivals and Chelsea must look to build their project with him as the focal point now.

Not only is he an impressive creative presence for the Blues, he has worked hard and helped the side defensively as well.

Havertz as a striker?

Meanwhile manager Thomas Tuchel has found himself a new forward option.

According to the German, Kai Havertz can play as a striker.

The likes of Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud have struggled to hold down a regular starting berth so far and Tuchel has now found a third striker option for his side.

Havertz has struggled to adapt to the Premier League since his move from Bayer Leverkusen and it will be interesting to see if the German attacker can succeed at Stamford Bridge as a forward now.

Ideally, the German is a false name and but can play as a centre forward. He managed to score quite a few goals for Bayern Leverkusen as a centre forward last season and it remains to be seen whether a change of position can resurrect his career.
