Liverpool update: Former Reds star makes Steven Gerrard admission, Wijnaldum opens on his contract situation

Scottish side's progress under the management of Steven Gerrard shows that the former Liverpool player is already doing better than the likes of Frank Lampard, Mikel Arteta and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a manager.

Gerrard ready for Liverpool job, claims Riise

Former Liverpool star John Arne Riise has claimed that Steven Gerrard is ready to take over from Jurgen Klopp as the manager at Anfield.

Klopp’s future looks tentative after the Reds’ decline since the turn of the year as they are currently seventh in the Premier League table and their chances of making it to the top four are even looking bleak.

Gerrard, who recently led Rangers to the first Scottish league title in ten years, has been considered as one of the favourites to replace Klopp as the Reds’ manager.

Riise said,  “People are saying ‘He doesn’t have the experience yet, he’s young’. One thing I know about Steven Gerrard: he’s always going to be ready for anything that comes to him, because he’s that type of person.

So I think that when Klopp decides to stop managing Liverpool – I think Klopp is the one to decide if he keeps going or not, he’s never going to get sacked, he’ll get an agreement to go when he doesn’t see a future there – when he goes if it’s one, two, three, four years, I think Stevie’s going to be the next man.”

Wijnaldum opens on his contract situation

Reds midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has said that it’s not an easy task to decide his future at Anfield.

The Dutchman has his contract running until the end of this season and it was reported earlier that the Reds had failed to convince him over an extension.

Wijnaldum, who continues to get linked with PSG, Inter Milan and Barcelona, said

“It is not as easy as everyone thinks it is to make some decisions for your future because you have to think about everything.

First you have to negotiate with the club and its so difficult which is why it takes so long.”

Wijnaldum also played down the contract talks as his priority is to help Liverpool get back on the winning track.
