Varane would be a good addition to Liverpool claims club legend John Barnes

Raphael Varane-Real Madrid

Real Madrid are looking to sell the French World Cup winner this summer.

Recent reports have been surfacing of late that Real Madrid are considering the sale of star centre-back Raphael Varane as they want to balance the books due to lack of funds.

Manchester United are reported to be the potential suitors for the Frenchman should he leave Bernabeu however Liverpool should move ahead and try to hijack the deal, according to club legend John Barnes.

Barnes, who sees Varane as a perfect signing for the Reds, added that the French World Cup winner would be an opt fit for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play.

“Varane would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool.

“He’s quick, he’s a good defender and great on the ball so he would suit the way that Liverpool play and for Liverpool to sign him would be a fantastic piece of business.

“He would strengthen any team in the Premier League but if he is leaving Real Madrid then there will be a lot of teams interested and a lot of competition to sign him.”

The Merseyside club suffered a lot in the defence due to the injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, which forced Klopp to rely on midfielders like Jordan Henderson, Fabinho as makeshift defenders.

Ozan Kabak, who arrived from Schalke in the winter transfer window, hasn’t had the ideal start at Anfield

Furthermore, they lost out on primary target Dayot Upamecano, who has agreed to sign for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Varane, by all means, is a top-class centre-back and has achieved a lot of silverware with the Spanish capital club. However, it remains to be seen whether the Reds would intensity the interest in the French defender.
