The Los Blancos president has lashed out at wealthy state-owned clubs PSG, Manchester City and Newcastle City.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has lashed out at state-owned clubs PSGManchester City and Newcastle United.

PSG and Man City are run by Qatar Sports Investment and Abu Dhabi United Group respectively, while Saudi’s PIF recently purchased Newcastle.

Perez has spoken about the potential threat the state-owned clubs could bring while highlighting Kylian Mbappe’s failed pursuit.

Perez said (h/t Marca): “We have to fulfil our contracts and we try to bring in good players and the best players. But you have to be able to afford them. Now you offer 200 million [euros] and they don’t sell.

“When they finish their contracts it’s better, but right now there are a lot of state-backed clubs and they don’t want to sell you players.

“I strive for [financial] management [of the club] to be the main thing, not the money you get from elsewhere. The time will come when the top 30 clubs in Europe will be owned by countries. That is not the principle of the European Union. I came here to fight and I have been fighting since I arrived.”

Los Blancos were keen on signing Mbappe from Paris Saint Germain during the end of the summer transfer window.

The Spanish giants were optimistic as Mbappe also handed a transfer request to the French Capital club.

However, despite Los Blancos’ sumptuous offer in excess of 180m euros, Les Parisiens managed to hold onto the World Cup winner.
