Fabrizio Romano on the important factor in the search for Tottenham, next manager

Tottenham borrow £175m to ease coronavirus impact

Popular journalist Fabrizio Romano has outlined the important factor necessary in Tottenham‘s search for a new manager.

The Italian who specialises in football transfer news has stated that Spurs status in Europe next season will determine who will be replacing the departed Jose Mourinho as Spurs manager.

Tottenham sacked Mourinho last month but are yet to replace the Portuguese full time, with Ryan Mason serving in interim capacity till a permanent replacement is found.

Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano said about the situation;

“European football is also important to decide on their manager. They’ve been talking to many managers in the last weeks. They had an idea with Brendan Rodgers, but he wants to stay at Leicester,” Romano said.

“They were talking with Ten Hag, but then Tottenham decided to change their position; now it is time to talk with other managers, but European football is so important when Tottenham are deciding on their next manager.

Romano also pointed out that whoever will be the next Spurs coach must have a good grasp of the English language.

Tottenham had earmarked Ajax coach Erik ten Hag as an ideal candidate but were not convinced about the Dutchman due to his poor command of English.

“It’s important to have a manager who speaks English for Tottenham,” Romano said while speaking on ‘The Here We Go Podcast’.

So, this has been an important part of any discussion, and this was also discussed with ten Hag a few weeks ago when they had the meeting.

“So for Tottenham, it is important to have a manager who has perfect English.”

Ten Hag had since gone on to sign a contract extension at Ajax, while Leicester coach, another earmarked candidate, has ruled himself out of running to focus on the Leicester job.
