Rodon and Vinicius making a statement, Kane equals Salah – three takeaways from Spurs’ win against Aston Villa

Carlos Vinicius-Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham bounced back from their Europa League nightmare with a comprehensive win against Aston Villa on Sunday. Spurs were depleted with confidence after Dinamo Zagreb knocked them out of Europa League days ago, but the win at Villa Park might have given them little confidence in the quest for the top-four race in the Premier League. Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane were the scorers while Spurs’ defence contained the dangerous attack of Villans. Here are the three major takeaways from the victory at Villa Park.

Harry Kane moves to the top of the scoring charts

Harry Kane’s fine run in the Premier League continues as he netted the second goal of Spurs from the penalty. With that strike, the 27-year-old has moved alongside Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah to the top of the scoring charts with 17 goals. Besides, the English man has also racked up 13 assists this season, which is also the highest in the league. Tottenham’s form might have taken a turn for the worse since the start of this season, however, Kane continues to be the shining light under Mourinho.

Carlos Vinicius scores his first Premier League goal, many to come

Carlos Vinicius was given a rare start by Mourinho in the starting eleven as he featured alongside Kane in the attack. The Portuguese striker eventually ended up having a great game, providing the breakthrough for Spurs and it also marked his first goal in the English top flight. Vinicius looked like a man full of confidence and if Mourinho persists with him, we can see the best from the Portuguese.

Joe Rodon making a statement

Joe Rodon’s appearances in this season have been few and far between and against Villans, we witnessed a courageous display from him in the defence. It was clearly a statement from Welsh centre-back as he is a player Mourinho should look out for in the upcoming games.
