Tottenham picked up a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Arsenal in the North London derby today at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Goals from Son Heung-min and Toby Alderweireld sealed the three points for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Arsenal took the lead in the 16th minute through Alexandre Lacazette, who scored a stunning long-range goal from 20 yards.

Tottenham did well to get back into the game three minutes later when on Son Heung-min capitalised on to a loose pass by Arsenal’s Sead Kolasinac and chipped the ball into the net over Emiliano Martinez.

Toby Alderweireld scored the winning goal of the game on the 81st minute. The Belgian headed in from Son’s corner.

Tottenham are now eighth with 52 points, two points ahead of ninth-placed Arsenal.

Jose Mourinho’s men came into this game on the back of a series of poor performances, and they will be delighted to have secured all three points here.

Although Spurs are unlikely to make it to the Champions League next season, they can still finish the season strongly, and Mourinho will want his side to build on this result now.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs can win their remaining games of the season.

It has been a forgettable season for them, but the fans will be happy with today’s result over their bitter rivals. It will give the players some confidence heading into the remaining games.

As for Arsenal, they will be bitterly disappointed to have lost here despite the resurgence under Arteta.

Both the teams can realistically look for a berth in UEFA Europa League at the moment. Pending verdict on Manchester City would undoubtedly have some implications on European dreams of many of the contenders.
