Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga earlier today.

Iker Muniain scored the opening goal for Bilbao but Diego Costa levelled things up for Simeone’s side.

Atletico were the better team heading into the game and they will be disappointed to have dropped two important points here.

The Spanish outfit are in the race for Champions League qualification and they cannot afford to drop points against weaker teams like Bilbao. It will be interesting to see how Atletico bounce back from this.

They are currently sixth in the table with 46 points and they will have to finish the season really strongly to get back into the top four.

Atletico had the chance to win the game against Bilbao but Santiago Arias squandered a good chance.

Simeone’s men were excellent in the Champions league before the lockdown and they will have to replicate that form in the league now.

Meanwhile, Bilbao will be pleased with the point and they will be looking to build on this performance and finish the season on a high. Atletico are lucky that their top four rivals Getafe dropped points earlier. They will be hoping for more of the same when Real Sociedad take on Osasuna later today.
