Arsenal and Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Samuel Umtiti.
As per Sport, the Barcelona defender could be available for a knockdown fee of around €30m this summer. Umtiti has fallen out of favor at the Catalan club and a move to Arsenal or Manchester United could help resurrect his career.
Inter Milan have been linked with the World cup winner as well. Apparently they are keen on a long term replacement for Godin, who is past his peak now.
Arsenal need to bring in alternatives for Luiz and Sokratis as well. Both players are in their 30s and they won’t be around for long.
As for Manchester United, they need a reliable partner for Harry Maguire.
Both teams would improve with Umtiti at their disposal and it will be interesting to see who ends up signing him.
Inter Milan could have a slight advantage in the chase because of Barcelona’s interest in Lautaro Martinez. Both clubs could easily work out a swap deal that benefits them.
A move to the Premier league is thought to be an alluring option for Umtiti. Arsenal and Manchester United have the resources to pay the reported asking price as well.
They will have a good chance of securing his services as well.
Umtiti needs to play regularly next season and his decision will have to be motivated by game time assurances. If his suitors can promise him a key role and a good financial package, the transfer might be easier to complete.
