Augsburg

Augsburg will look to end a run of two league games without a win when they RB Leipzig to WWK Arena on Saturday.

The hosts completed a Bundesliga round below RB Leipzig in the standings for the first time in four weeks after they were beaten by FC Koln last weekend.

In a thrilling game at the RheinEnergieStadion, a 15th-minute goal from Florian Niederlechner gave Augsburg the lead. But a brace from Steffen Tigges on either side of a Denis Huseinbašić goal gave Cologne the maximum points despite Daniel Caligiuri’s equaliser.

The result was followed by a disappointing 5-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday.

Enrico Maaßen’s Augsburg side opened the scoring in that game through Mads Pedersen, but we’re eventually outclassed by the Bavarians who scored four times in the second half to condemn the hosts to their second consecutive loss.

They will now come into this tie hoping to record their first win in four attempts and to get back to form, having won three league games in a row before their recent winless run.

They will be hoping to win their first game against Leipzig since 2017. Still, with more wins (W4, D1, L4) as an outsider than any other Bundesliga team in the first ten rounds, nobody can afford to underestimate the threat the heavy underdogs will pose here.

Possible Augsburg starting line-up

Tomas Koubek; Raphael Framberger, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Robert Gumny, Iago; Carlos Gruezo, Elvis Rexhbecaj; Ermedin Demirovic, Niederlechne, Ruben Vargas, Mergim Berisha.

Injured: Andre Hahn, Fredrik Jensen, Felix Uduokhai, Frederick Winther, Reece Oxford, Niklas Dorsch, Sarenren-Bazee, Tobias Strobl

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

RB Leipzig

Leipzig continued their renaissance under Marco Rose with a thrilling 3-2 win over Hertha Berlin last weekend.

In an entertaining game at the Red Bull Arena, Leipzig scored three times in the first half. But a late charge by Hertha nearly cost them maximum points, yet they held on to secure maximum points to post four Bundesliga home games without defeat for the first time since February.

They followed up that win with a 4-0 win over Hamburger SV in the DFB Pokal last Wednesday, taking their unbeaten run in all competitions to five games (W4, D1).

With such a form, they will come into this tie confident of recording another positive result that will push them into the top four places. Currently, they are sitting in eighth place, just two points behind Hoffenheim, who are in action against Bayern Munich this weekend.

And so, a win in this game could see them break into the top four places. However, to achieve that, they will have to sort their away form as they remain without a league away from home this season (D2, L3).

Yet there’s no better opponent for them to get back to form than Augsburg given that they are unbeaten in this fixture in the last 11 head-to-head outings (W6, D5).

Possible RB Leipzig starting line-up

Janis Blaswich; Benjamin Henrichs, Willi Orban, Abdou Diallo, Mohamed Simakan; Xaver Schlager, Amadou Haidara; Emil Forsberg, Dominik Szoboszlai, Timo Werner, Andre Silva.

Injured: None Peter Gulacsi, Konrad Laimer, Dani Olmo, Lukas Klostermann, Christopher Nkunku

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
