Bayern Munich came out on top after edging out Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in Der Klassiker despite trailing by two goals early on in the game.

It was another monstrous performance from Robert Lewandowski, who scored a match-winning hat-trick.

Dortmund got off to a dream start after Erling Haaland scored two goals inside nine minutes.

Die Borussen were clear with their plans as they defended deep in their half and intended to punish the Bundesliga champions on the break

Bayern, although they struggled to play through the tight defence of Dortmund, opened their account after a close-range goal from Lewandowski, with Leroy Sane providing an excellent low cross from the right-hand side. The Polish striker levelled it for the Bavarians from the penalty spot right before half-time.

Both the teams slowed up their tempo for the larger parts of the second half and it looked as if the game was heading to a draw.

However, Leon Goretzka restored the lead in the 88th minute for the Bavarians before Lewandowski put the game to bed by completing his hat-trick at the stroke of regular time.

Dortmund would be disappointed to concede two goals in the final few minutes although they remained competent for almost the entirety of the game.

After the stunning comeback win, Bayern have returned to the top of the summit, moving ahead of Leipzig.
