Boateng set for exit
Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng is set to leave the German club at the end of the season.
The defender will be a free agent in the summer and the German outfit have decided not to offer him a new deal. The club have already communicated their decision to the player and his agent.
Boateng is in the twilight of his career right now and he’s unlikely to get any better.
The German international has regressed over the past year and it makes sense for the club to move him on and invest in quality young talent.
Dayot Upamecano is set to join the club in the summer and Boateng would have fallen down the pecking order if he had stayed.
It would be wise of the former World Cup winner to move on and secure regular first-team football at another club.
Muller to Liverpool
Meanwhile Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Muller recently claimed that he is not determined to finish his career with the German outfit and his future could lie elsewhere.
The German international cited the example of Thiago Alcantara who recently moved to Liverpool.
Muller’s comments have fuelled rumours of a potential move to Anfield but it seems quite unlikely that the Premier League side will try and him.
Liverpool are in need of quality young attackers and Muller is unlikely to get better at this stage of his career. Also, he would struggle to get regular game time if he moved to Anfield.
Donovan on Alphonso Davies
Meanwhile United States national team star Landon Donovan has heaped praise on the Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.
The youngster has developed into one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe and Donovan claims that Davies is his favourite Bayern Munich player.
The young left-back has the potential to develop into a world-class player and it will be interesting to see his growth over the next few years.
“Alphonso Davies is my favourite Bayern player,” said the 39-year-old, who is now head coach of USL Championship team San Diego Loyal.
“I also have Canadian citizenship, so I’m especially proud of him for that reason. Davies is an outstanding athlete, is good on the ball, strong in defence but also creates scoring opportunities and gets goals himself. He’s got everything every manager looks for in a modern full-back. Davies can become one of the best left-backs in the world.”
