Dortmund 1-2 Frankfurt: Ande Silva scores late on to send the visitors 7-points clear in fourth place

Andre Silva-Eintracht Frankfurt

Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a major blow in the top four race.

The home side were beaten 2-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga earlier tonight.

An own goal from Nico Schulz on the 11th minute and a match-winning goal from Andre Silva on the 87th minute was enough to secure all three points for Frankfurt.

Frankfurt are now seven points clear of Dortmund and they will be favourites to secure a top-four finish this season.

Missing out on the Champions League could be catastrophic for Dortmund especially with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland linked with a move away from the German club.

The likes of Sancho and Haaland are elite talents who deserve to play in the Champions League every year and it will be interesting to see if Dortmund can hold onto them if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Eintracht Frankfurt were the better team on the balance of the place and they deserved to win 2-1 tonight.

Andre Silva has now scored 22 league goals this season and it is the second-best return for any Frankfurt player in top-flight history since  Bernd Hölzenbein in 1976.

Dortmund will be concerned with their performances in recent weeks and Haaland in particular will be disappointed with his goalscoring record.

The Norwegian striker has scored just one of his last 15 Bundesliga goals at home.

Both teams were in mediocre form coming into this game and Dortmund will be disappointed with their current run of results.

The home side have won just one of the last four matches in all competitions and Frankfurt have had a similar run of form.

The last time these two sides met, Dortmund managed to pick up a 1-1 draw away from home they will be disappointed to have conceded all three points here.

It will be interesting to see if Dortmund can finish the season strongly and secure Champions League qualification for the next season.
