Amine Younes‘ heroics have helped Eintracht Frankfurt pick up an emphatic 2-1 win against Bayern Munich.
Younes set up Daichi Kamada’s opener in the 12th minute before he unleashed a thunderous strike to double the lead, leaving the entire Bayern defence in tatters. The home side headed to the tunnel after the half-time whistle with a two-goal cushion.
The recently crowned FIFA world champions looked clueless for the larger parts of the game, but it was until the 53rd minute when star striker Robert Lewandowski halved the deficit.
Although Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp was called into action on several occasions, Bayern failed to make the cut as they suffered their third defeat of the season.
Meanwhile, Frankfurt stretched their undefeated run in Bundesliga to 11 games in a row, with the Bavarians becoming their latest victims. They are currently fourth in the table.
Younes stole the limelight with an excellent display, which would have caught the attention of Germany manager Low, who turned out for the game. The 27-year-old, who is currently on loan from Napoli, has been brilliant for Frankfurt this season, racking up three goals and two assists.
Bayern would be taking this defeat as a wake-up call as they have allowed Leipzig to close the gap if they end up victorious on Sunday.
The Bavarians manager Hansi Flick offered his thoughts on the result: We didn’t get well into the game. Eintracht played with a lot of pace. If we play the way we did in the second half for 90 minutes, the winner would be different. We had turbulent few weeks. We’re just human. But I’m still proud of the team.
