Monchengladbach have scraped out three points against tough Werder Bremen

Borussia Monchengladbach have managed to scrape out a tough 1-0 win against Werder Bremen, with Nico Elvedi’s second-half goal making the difference.

Perhaps, the hosts were lifeless in the attack while Werder created promising chances throughout the game.

Yan Sommer made a stunning save to deny what looked like a perfect volley from Werder striker Romano Schmid.

Not long after, Sommer almost turned a villain as he rushed to thwart Werder’s attack and initially got beaten. However, thanks to Matthias Ginter, who made a goal-line clearance to prevent Felix Agu’s strike.

Gladbach broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when centre-back Nico Elvedi headed the ball into the nets from Laszlo Benes.

Werder were unfortunate not to find the nets later on in the game when Milot Rashica’s strike hit the post and also the back of Sommer unaware of him before the ball sat onto the Swiss goalkeeper’ arms.

Nonetheless, Gladbach would be happy with the result and they are now unbeaten in their last three games.

Last weekend, Marco Rose’s side were denied a win against Stuttgart after Silas Wamangituk netted an injury-time equaliser in the thrilling 2-2 draw.

Now, Gladbach are seventh in the league table, with only four points separating them from fourth-placed Dortmund.

Gladbach, perhaps, will be facing Die Borussen in their next league fixture and a win would take them closer to the top-four race.
