Leipzig 4-0 Schalke: Angelino, Halstenberg scores as RB go to the top of Bundesliga

Leipzig 1-1 Paderborn - Leipzig conceded a last minute goal

Leipzig have continued their winning run against Schalke

RB Leipzig have thrashed Schalke 4-0 in what looked like a one-sided encounter at Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig were handed their breakthrough following Can Bozdogan’s own goal. The 19-year-old wouldn’t have imagined such a start as he conceded the goal right after he was brought from the bench to replace Suat Serdar.

The hosts went on to double the lead as Angelino found a stunning header from Nkunku’s cross.

Schalke couldn’t bear more hardships as Leipzig’s Willi Orban scored the third goal at the brink of the half time whistle.

As a result, the visitors were forced to make several changes including the goalkeeper, but none proved to be productive.

Leipzig sealed the game once and for all after Marcel Halstenberg scored the penalty with only seven minutes left in the normal time.

Julian Nagelsmann would be a happy person after leading his side to the top of the table, at least for the time being.

Leipzig are coming after a lacklustre performance against Bayer Leverkusen in Bundesliga last week, where they shared points eventually.

Elsewhere, Schalke’s winless streak continues even after sacking David Wagner, who has now been replaced by new manager Manuel Baum. Baum has been appointed on a two-year contract by Schalke.

Leipzig will face Augsburg in their next Bundesliga fixture after the international break.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Schalke can end their miserable run when they face Union Berlin in their next Bundesliga game.
