Mainz picked up a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga earlier tonight.

United States international Tyler Adams scored the opening goal of the game in the 15th minute to put Leipzig ahead.

Marcel Sabitzer hit the crossbar with a thundering effort and his shot was converted by Adams on the rebound.

The away side conceded nine minutes later through a set-piece when Moussa Niakhate smashed the ball home.

Marcel Halstenberg gave the away side their lead six minutes later after guiding Dayot Upamecano’s header into the goal.

Niakhate added his second of the game on the 35th minute to level the scores and Barreiro scored the winner for the home side on the 50th minute for the home side.

Mainz will be delighted with their performance here and this was the first time they have scored three goals at home this season.

They failed to win their last four matches at home and the fans would have expected a big performance from the players here. The players managed to step up and deliver this time.

It will be interesting to see how Leipzig bounce back from this. It was their first defeat against Mainz in the last four meetings.

Meanwhile, Niakhate continues his impressive run of form against Leipzig and three of his four Bundesliga goals have come against them.

Mainz are now 17th in the table with just 10 points and they will have to build on this win if they want to get out of the drop zone. Leipzig are now second with 35 points and this was a golden opportunity for them to close the gap with leaders Bayern.
