Leeds United and West Brom managed to secure their place in the Premier League through automatic promotion last night.
However, that wasn’t the case for four other teams who came agonizingly close to the achievement.
The likes of Brentford, Fulham, Swansea and Cardiff City will now face each other in the Championship playoffs in the hope of securing their place in the Premier League.
Brentford and Fulham will be thoroughly disappointed to have missed out on automatic promotion. They were just two points adrift of West Brom in the end. The Baggies did not even manage to win their final game.
For Brentford, this will feel like a massive lost opportunity after the impressive season they have had.
Meanwhile, Swansea picked up a sensational win to overtake Nottingham Forest to the final playoff spot thanks to a goal difference of just one.
Rhian Brewster scored a remarkable goal for the Welsh outfit on the night.
The Swans will now take on Brentford in the playoffs and Cardiff will battle it out with Fulham.
The winners of the two games will then fight for a Premier League place in the final.
The first legs of the playoffs will be played between Swansea and Brentford on Sunday, July 26, 6.30pm. Cardiff and Fulham will face each other on Monday, July 27, 7.45pm
The second leg between Brentford and Swansea will take place on Wednesday, July 29, 7.45pm and the Fulham vs Cardiff return leg will be on Thursday, July 30, 7.45pm.
The Championship play-off final will take place between the winner of semi-final A and winner semi-final B on Tuesday August 4, 7.45pm at Wembley Stadium,
