Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has broken his silence after he was sacked. Pochettino’s five-year stint in north London came to an end last week Tuesday, with Jose Mourinho unveiled as his successor within 24 hours of his departure.

The former Argentinian international, who previously managed Espanyol and Southampton, did not have the chance to say goodbye to his players in person after his sudden sacking, has now spoken for the first time .

He wrote: “I would like to thank Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy for allowing me to be part of Tottenham Hotspur’s history. “I would like to thank also everyone I met at Tottenham, all the club staff and the football players during these five and a half years.

“Finally, I would like to give a special mention to the fans who make this club so great with their fantastic support. “I gave the best of me to accomplish the objectives I was asked for in our first meeting. There were equally tough challenges as exciting success. “Best wishes for the future, I am sure we will cross paths again.”

Pochettino is already being linked with a return to management and was linked to Manchester United, Arsenal and PSG. He is also the favourite for the vacant Bayern Munich job, but Jamie Carragher believes the Manchester United board must consider him.

“There is no doubt Pochettino is the one they wanted and Solskjaer did that well, it forced United to give him the job. “At the top of Manchester United , when they get to Christmas and January and this continues, and there is a guy like Pochettino who would take them forward.” He added, “They would not be doing their job if they weren’t in contact with him.”
