Fulham 0-1 Tottenham: Bale, Alli, Son combine to force an own goal, VAR comes to rescue

Dele Alli-Son-Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham picked up a narrow 1-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Tosin Adarabioyo scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute and the own goal from the Fulham defender, could have gone to Dele Alli’s way, as Alli’s placement got deflected by Adarabioyo into the goal.

The home team has been quite impressive in recent weeks and their performance was once again praiseworthy despite the defeat. Fulham will be disappointed to have come away from this game empty-handed.

Josh Maja managed to score for the home side but its goal was ruled out due to handball. It was at the judged that Mario Lemina handed the ball. Lemina had a chance to draw level late on in the game but his shot blazed over the crossbar.

The likes of Harrison Reed and Alphonse Areola were quite impressive for the home side and there were plenty of positives for Fulham to take away from the game.

The home side remain in the bottom three and they will have to regroup quickly and bounce back strongly in their next game if they want to stay up this season.

As for Tottenham, they will be relieved to have picked up all three points but performance-wise Fulham matched them every step of the way and Spurs will have to perform better against the weaker sides if they want to qualify for the Champions League.

Spurs had just 40% ball possession and two shots on target over the course of the 90 minutes.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez and Hugo Lloris were excellent for the away side and both players were crucial to the London side keeping a clean sheet tonight.

But despite everything Spurs were to lose points as Fulham made the equaliser. This time VAR came to rescue Mourinho’s side and ruled out the goal for handball. The handball decisions have been quite subjective to the interpretation of referees recent time.

Jose Mourinho decided to start his coveted front four but the likes of Kane, Son, Alli and Bale were not at their best tonight.

The Tottenham front four struggled to click tonight but there is plenty of talent there and they could easily form a lethal partnership in the final third over the coming weeks. They did manage to link up well for a move that led to the own goal.

Spurs did not create too many chances against a well organised Fulham defence. However, the likes of Harry Kane and Son had a couple of chances in the first half but both players failed to score from their headers.

Gareth Bale produced a subdued performance after his heroics against Burnley but Dele Alli worked hard throughout the game and he was instrumental in the own goal Fulham conceded after he was given a rare start by Mourinho.

Spurs are now 8th in the table with 42 points, just four points adrift of the top four.
