Real Madrid

Real Madrid continued their impressive start to the season with another dominant win over Elche last time out.

Having secured a 3-1 win over La Liga rivals Barcelona in the El Clasico last weekend to go top of the league table, Carlo Ancelotti’s men strengthened their grip on the top spot with a 3-0 win away to Elche last Wednesday.

Goals from Federico Valverde, Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio sealed the win for Los Blancos and extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 19 games (W15, D4).

The result also marked the 12th time they were scoring 2+ goals in a competitive game this season. They also kept just their second La Liga clean sheet this season in that game and so will come into this in good spirits.

Having made a clean swoop of awards in the Ballon d’Or ceremony in midweek, this will afford the Spanish giants the chance to present their individual awards to the adoring Bernabeu faithful who will also be desperate for their side to keep their foot on the pedal as they look to retain their La Liga title. Considering that they are unbeaten in their last seven head-to-head meetings with Sevilla (W6, D1), they will fancy their chances of recording another league win.

Possible Real Madrid starting line-up

Sevilla

Sevilla extended their unbeaten start under coach Jorge Sampaoli on Tuesday when they played out a 1-1 draw with Valencia.

In a dramatic game at the Ramon Sanchez, the Andalusian club fell behind in the sixth minute when former Napoli and PSG striker Edinson Cavani capitalised on goalkeeper Bono’s mistake to head home Dimitri Foulquier’s cross into the area. But the hosts fought back and got a deserved equaliser late in the game through Erik Lamela. Bono also made up for his earlier error by saving a late penalty after Kike Salas’s foul in the box, which led to his being sent off.

The result extended Sampaoli’s unbeaten start to life in Seville (W1, D3) and also moved Rojiblancos closer to mid-table.

The target will now be for them to turn positive performances and defensive solidity into three points, having conceded just once or less in each of the four games Sampaoli has overseen since his return to the Sevilla dugout.

However, the possibility of doing so against Los Blancos is slim given that they have conceded 2+ goals in each of their last 13 visits to Madrid’s home ground, they cannot be solidly backed not to concede here against a free-scoring Real Madrid team.

Possible Sevilla starting line-up

Yassine Bounou; Gonzalo Montiel, Jose Angel Carmona, Nianzou Kouassi, Marcos Acuna; Oliver Torres, Nemanja Gudelj, Isco, Alex Telles; Rafael Mir, Erik Lamela.

Injured: Karim Rekik, Jesus Corona, Fernando

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Kike Salas
