Suarez can leave Atletico for free due to a special contract clause, but the striker prefers to stay

Luis Suarez-Atletico Madrid

The Uruguayan has a clause in his Atletico contract which could allow him to leave for free in June.

It has been just five months since Luis Suarez sealed his move to Atletico Madrid from Barcelona, but his impact at Diego Simeone’s side has been surreal as they are the current leaders of the La Liga table.

Amid such brilliant run of form, a secret clause in the Uruguayan’s contract has been revealed, which will allow him to leave Atletico for free in June.

However, it is understood that Suarez wants to continue playing for Simeone’s side and at the same time, Los Blancos are not interested in parting ways with him.

Suarez has been touted as one of the summer bargains as he has helped Atletico maintain an impeccable run in the Spanish top-flight, leaving Real Madrid and Barcelona behind.

Having formed a stellar partnership with Atletico’s record signing Joao Felix, Suarez has racked up a total of 16 goals in the league so far and currently leads the scoring charts ahead of his former team-mate Lionel Messi.

The former Liverpool man was informed by Ronald Koeman that he wouldn’t feature in his plans once the Dutchman took charge last summer.

Messi also vented his frustrations not only for the way his friend got treated but also for allowing him to join a rival club like Atletico, who are ironically the favourites to lift the La Liga crown.
