PSG have lifted the Coupe de la Ligue title after defeating Lyon 6-5 in penalties. Having already won the Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Trophees des Champions, Les Parisiens have now added another trophy to their cabinet this season. PSG – the successful club in the competition – have become the last club to lift the Coupe de la Ligue title as it will go extinct after this year.

After both the teams failed to find the score sheet in regular time, the match entered the penalties. Pablo Sarabia sealed the win with the decisive tie-breaker while Keylor Navas denied Lyon’s Bertrand Traoré. The game also saw Lyon defender Rafael getting straight red following his tackle on Angel di Maria in the extra time.

Les Gones were resolute throughout the game, but they couldn’t prevent PSG from winning the title.

Both the teams will be heading to the Champions League this month, with PSG facing Atalanta in the quarter-finals while Lyon will travel to Turin for the round-of-16 match against Juventus. Les Gones have a bigger chance to upset Bianconeri as they have a goal advantage in the aggregate.

PSG star Kylian Mbappe was spotted celebrating with his team-mates after the win. The 21-year-old suffered a knee injury against St Etienne earlier this week following a horrific tackle by Loice Perrin.

The French World Cup winner is doubtful for the Champions League clash, with PSG manager admitting that it would be a miracle if Mbappe were to make his return against Atalanta.

PSG have been unfortunate in the continental competitions for years and will look for redemption this season.
