Venue: Stade Francis-Le Blé (Brest)

Key Statistics

Brest are unbeaten in three of their last four league matches, claiming two wins and one draw.

Only four sides have scored fewer goals than the hosts 16 ahead of this round.

Lyon have kept just one clean sheet in their last ten league games.

Only Nantes (3) have picked up fewer points away from home than Lyon’s four this term (W1, D1, L5).

Head to head

With four wins from the last 12 meetings between the sides, Olympique Lyon boasts a superior record in the history of this fixture.

Brest recorded just one win in those 12 games, while seven ended all square.

The visitors’ record of six of seven away goals is the joint second fewest in the league so far.

Brest

Despite having over a month off for the World Cup, the managerial search incredibly rolls on at Stade Brestois.

The hosts went into the break in need of a new manager after sacking Michel Der Zakarian after a terrible start to the season, which has left them bottom of Ligue 1.

And so, caretaker boss Bruno Grougi is set to take charge of his sixth game. The five games under Grougi’s stewardship have been mixed (W2, D1, L2). Yet, the 2-1 win over Troyes ahead of the break ensured that they spent the Christmas period outside the relegation zone, albeit only by goal difference.

A change of direction is sorely needed at Brest after recording their worst 15-game start to a top-flight season across the last decade (W3, D4, L8).

The best place to start is to improve their scoring, as only four sides have scored fewer than their meagre 16 goals ahead of this round.

Possible Brest starting line-up

Marco Bizot; Noah Fadiga, Lilian Brassier, Brendan Chardonnet, Jean-Kevin Duverne; Mathias Pereira Lage, Pierre Lees-Melou, Mahdi Camara; Romain Del Castillo, Islam Slimani, Franck Honorat.

Injured: Jere Uronen

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Lyon

Like their hosts, Lyon also come into this round of games in their own worst 15-game start to a Ligue 1 campaign (W6, D3, L6) since being two points worse off at the same stage of 2013/14.

And so, the World Cup break sound have come at the best time for them, giving them a chance to regroup under the leadership of former PSG and France manager Laurent Blanc.

After recently stating, “Lyon has a problem, and we have a big project”, the break would have given Blanc a chance to assess the squad, which must be seen as a positive after some mixed results across his opening five games in charge (W2, D1, L2).

But to climb into the top four places, Lyon’s rotten away form needs to be addressed immediately, with only Nantes picking up fewer road points than Lyon’s four this term (W1, D1, L5).

Possible Lyon starting line-up

Anthony Lopes; Malo Gusto, Sinaly Diomande, Castello Lukeba, Nicolas Tagliafico; Houssem Aouar, Maxence Caqueret, Thiago Mendes; Tetê, Alexandre Lacazette, Karl Toko Ekambi.

Injured: Jérome Boateng

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
