Lyon

Lyon will look to make it two wins in a row for the first time since August when they host Lille on Sunday.

The hosts enjoyed a strong start to the season with four wins from their opening Ligue 1 games. However, their form dropped after they returned from the September international break, with Lyon going on a six-game winless run between early September and mid-October.

However, they ended that poor run of form with a huge 2-1 win over Montpellier last time out. Yet, their return of 17 points after 12 games is less than they have managed in seven of their last eight seasons.

They come into this round sitting outside of the European spots on the table, with fifth-placed Marseille five points ahead.

They face a strong battle just to get back amongst Europe’s elite for the first time since their semi-final appearance of 2019/20. A ten-point gap to the third and final UEFA Champions League place after just 12 rounds is concerning, and considering the hosts are winless in their last 11 top-flight matches against Lille, that gap could be about to stretch this weekend.

Possible Lyon starting line-up

Anthony Lopes; Jerome Boateng, Castello Lukeba, Henrique; Malo Gusto, Houssem Aouar, Maxence Caqueret, Thiago Mendes, Nicolas Tagliafico; Alexandre Lacazette, Moussa Dembele.

Injured: Corentin Tolisso, Julian Pollersbeck

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Sinaly Diomande

Lille

Lille will look to make it four wins in four league games when they face Lyon on Sunday.

After starting the season poorly, Lille have come back to form in good time ahead of this game.

They sit just two places above Lyon coming into the weekend but are five points better off. They have four wins from their last five games, with their most recent win–a 4-3 win over Monaco–their third win in a row.

Their newfound consistency has been aided by a clinical nature in front of goal, with Lille’s 25 goals scored in their opening 12 league matches this season their highest tally at this stage of the competition since 1981/82 (26).

At this stage of the campaign, only PSG have scored more goals than Lille who have scored in each of their last 15 games, a record which only Monaco and Inter Milan can better across Europe’s top-five leagues.

Having not failed to score in an away H2H since 2015, they will fancy their chances of continuing that run here.

Possible Lille starting line-up

Lucas Chevalier; Akim Zedadka, Alexsandro Ribeiro, Taigo Djalo, Ismaily; Jonas Martin, Andre Gomes; Jonathan Bamba, Remy Cabella, Adam Ounas; Jonathan David.

Injured: Alan Virginius

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
