PSG climb to the top of the table with a narrow win over Angers

Layvin Kurzawa-PSG

Paris Saint-Germain picked up a 1-0 win over Angers in the French League earlier tonight.

Layvin Kurzawa scored the only goal of the game for the defending champions 20 minutes from time.

Newly appointed manager Mauricio Pochettino was absent during the game because he’s self-isolating after testing positive for Coronavirus and assistant manager Jesus Perez managed to guide the Champions to a win tonight.

Angers did well to contain PSG at the start of the game and be Pierrick Capelle could have given them the lead just two minutes into the game.

Keylor Navas did well to keep PSG in the game and the Champions got back into the contest as the game went on.

Kylian Mbappe hit the side-netting with his chance and Moise Kean glanced his header wide in the first half.

PSG failed to register a single shot on target in the first half and Angers will be disappointed to have come away empty-handed despite defending so well for the majority of the game.

Alessandro Florenzi created the match-winning goal when his cross was deflected into Kurzawa’s path and the left-back powered home a fine volley from 8 yards out.

The win tonight takes PSG back to the summit of the French League with 42 points from 20 matches and Angers are now 7th with 30 points from 20 matches.

PSG will have to improve offensively if they want to do well this season. They have been quite mediocre going forward this season and the likes of Mbappe will have to step up and deliver consistently.
