Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, as they moved further at seventh place in the league table and Chelsea stayed at fourth place. As Chelsea concede the lead in the table, there is a sense of injustice after a few VAR decisions went against the Blues.

Man United vs Chelsea – Goals

Manchester United closed to within three points of Chelsea, as Premier League top four or top five race has really heated up, as Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire provided a two-goal victory to Manchester United.

Martial glanced in Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross moments before halftime and Manchester United captain Harry Maguire powered in a header from Bruno Fernandes’ corner at 66 minutes.

VAR Controversy

Willian of Chelsea was punished with a booking, for alleged diving at the outside of Manchester United penalty box. The controversy started from there, and it had heightened the drama, but Chelsea were always in the receiving end.

Chelsea may feel unlucky as Maguire escaped a red card for kicking Batshuayi in the groin in the first half as they tangled on the touchline, despite the incident being examined by VAR. The referee decision should be based on action on the field, rather than the intention of a player, as judging intention induce subjectivity in decision making.

And the review system denied Blues once again when substitute Kurt Zouma scored a goal from a corner. The goal was ruled out for a push by Cesar Azpilicueta on Brandon Williams, although replays showed the push might not be significant enough, and United’s Fred had a hand on the back of Chelsea’s captain.

At last, goal by another Chelsea substitute Olivier Giroud’s header at 76th minute was ruled out because his foot was inch outside and judged as offside. Had it been allowed, this one would have been best goal of the match, as he made a header flick from seven yards and the ball was at waist height.
