Manchester United are interested in signing the Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.
According to Le 10 Sport, the Red Devils have already contacted the player’s camp regarding a move. Koulibaly is a man in demand this summer and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can beat their rivals to the 28-year-old’s signature.
Le 10 Sport also claim that Liverpool remain keen on the player and they are actually leading the race to sign him. Jurgen Klopp wants a top class partner for Van Dijk and the Senegalese has been identified as a target.
Koulibaly is a world class player and if he joins Liverpool, the Reds could be on another level next season. However, the Italian giants value Koulibaly at €100m and it will be difficult to find a suitor with that asking price.
Manchester United could certainly pull off a big money transfer like that but they need to improve other areas of their squad as well. Spending €100m on Koulibaly could stop them from signing their other targets.
On paper, Koulibaly would be a sensational signing for the Red Devils. He could partner Harry Maguire at the back next season. Someone like him could have a Van Dijk-esque impact on United and make them unbeatable at the back.
It will be interesting to see where Koulibaly ends up this summer. Whoever manages to sign him will have a world class player on their hands.
The player has been linked with Newcastle United as well in the recent weeks.
