The Norwegian manager has opened up on the reasons behind Van de Beek’s lack of game time.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at the critics for their comments on the constant snubbing of Donny van de Beek.
The Dutch midfielder, who joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window, has hardly featured in the starting lineup so far this season.
Solskjaer has an answer for Van de Beek’s lack of playing time with the first team while taking a dig at the critics.
“It’s going to be a long season and, of course, the depth of our squad is better now and to leave players out like the last game, Donny, Nemanja and Paul started on the bench, they are all experienced international footballers.”
“And it’s not easy but we have so many games this season and they all are going to play a big, massive part in different parts of the season.”
The Red Devils manager also added that Van de Beek has a big role to play in this season and also took a dig at the critics for their comments.
“Donny is going to play a big, big part this year. At the moment, I realise the topic is Donny van de Beek and it’s nice for some players or commentators to have a little go. I know you’re short for time when you’re on telly and you have to put your points across very quickly but you have to know that you don’t have to start the first three games to be a very important player in the squad.”
Van de Beek has featured as a starter in the EFL Games while coming as a substitute to score his debut goal in the Premier League defeat against Crystal Palace.
