Arsenal 3-1 West Brom: Arteta’s side pick up a home win as the Baggies are relegated

Willian-Arsenal

Arsenal picked up a comfortable home win over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Nicolas Pepe and Willian, cancelled out an impressive strike from Matheus Pereira.

The Baggies have managed to put on an impressive fight towards the end of the campaign, but it was not enough to keep them in the Premier League for another season. Tonight’s 3-1 defeat sees them relegated to the Championship for the next season.

Bukayo Saka as the left back

Mikel Arteta had put the talented youngster in left-back position against West Brom, and Saka was outstanding against the Baggies. He had played in the position during last season as Kieran Tierney was injured. It was an unusual position for him , but Emery had put him there and Arteta continued with him in the same position rest of the season.

The Londoners struggled against Villarreal in the Europa League during the midweek because of the injury to Kieran Tierney, and the fans will be wondering why Arteta did not use Saka as his full-back in that game. He was tenacious at the back and purposeful going forward.

The rise of Matheus Pereira

Despite relegation, Pereira has proven to be one of the most exciting attackers in the Premier League this season.

The West Brom star managed to score for his side in the second half, and he could have easily had a couple more in the first half.

A player of his calibre deserves better than the Championship, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up next season.

The Brazilian has 11 goals and 5 assists to his name in all competitions.

The decline of Thomas Partey

When the midfielder joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid at the start of the season, he was rated as one of the finest defensive midfielders around Europe.

However, his form has continued to decline as the season went on, and he was left on the bench tonight only to come on later. Partey failed to make an impact tonight, and he will be desperate to regain his form for Arsenal next season.

Like several other midfield players, the fans will be concerned with the regression of the talented defensive midfielder under the coaching of Mikel Arteta.
