Arsenal failed to build on their emphatic win against Leicester City after being held to a 1-1 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang put the hosts ahead inside six minutes, with Willian being the provider for the striker. The Brazilian winger looks to have found his form back after scoring as many as four assists in the last few weeks.
Arsenal couldn’t hold onto the lead as midfielder Granit Xhaka gifted a goal to Burnley right before half-time. The Swiss international failed to clear the ball from the back as his costly error led to an equaliser from Chris Wood.
The game turned out to be more open-ended in the final quarter as both sides had more promising opportunities to restore the lead.
Clarets striker Wood could have doubled his lead after combining excellently with Vydra but his strike was eventually denied by Bernd Leno.
At the other end, Nicolas Pepe was presented with a huge chance after a low-drilled cross from Kieran Tierney but the Ivorian made a mess of his shot, much to Mikel Arteta’s disappointment.
Pepe nearly made it up for the miss minutes later but his strike was denied by Erik Pieters on the goal-line, for which he was initially awarded a red-card but the referee reverted it later after finding it came off Pieter’s shoulder.
Dani Ceballos rattled the post in the dying minutes, which was the North Londoners’ last opportunity as they were denied all three points by the home side.
The Gunners failed to move ahead of Aston Villa and they are currently tenth in the Premier League table.
