Chelsea centre-back rumours: Varane, Konate, Pau Torres, Ahmedhodzic; Rudiger transfer talks with rival

Rudiger-Chelsea

Chelsea continue to get linked with a plethora of centre-backs as Thomas Tuchel eyes to reinforce the defence this summer. Furthermore, the German manager is expected to be backed by the Blues hierarchy to spend big in the upcoming transfer window. Here we take a look at some of the defensive targets and their latest updates.

Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane is willing to seek an exit from Real Madrid although they are trying to tie him up to a new deal and keep him for good. It comes as a huge boost for the Blues as they can add more experience to the defence if they are to sign the World Cup winner.

Ibrahima Konate

Chelsea are interested in signing the young RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate but are expected to face stiff competition from both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Konate has a release clause worth €45m but it is understood that he can be acquired for a relatively lower cost.

Pau Torres

Villarreal’s Pau Torres has been long linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and the Blues appear not to have given up their interest. However, Manchester United remain keen on signing the Spaniard.

Anel Ahmedhodzic

The Blues have suffered a blow in the pursuit of Malmo defender Ahmedhodzic as Atalanta have won the race for his signature.

Rudiger confirms Tottenham talks

Antonio Rudiger has revealed that he had held talks with Spurs manager Jose Mourinho over a potential transfer while also adding that he considered the idea of joining Tuchel’s former club PSG last year.

“I was close (to leaving),” Rudiger said. “There were really like two teams, maybe one team I was considering, that was PSG to be honest.

“There was (a) call also with Mourinho, but this is something at the end of the day that didn’t happen, and with Tuchel also, (but it) didn’t happen.
