Klopp’s ex-assistant Zeljko Buvac: I was practically the manager for 17 years

Klopp Liverpool unlikely to have very busy transfer window

Zeljko Buvac has taken a dig at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Jurgen Klopp‘s former assistant Zeljko Buvac has taken a dig at him.

Buvac worked with Klopp in tandem during the latter’s managerial stint at Borussia Dortmund, Mainz and Liverpool for nearly two decades.

However, Buvac has now taken a swipe at the Champions League winning boss, claiming that Klopp’s backroom staff were the very reason for his success over the course.

“I did the coaching job, with the exception of the interviews.

“It felt like I’ve been the manager for all those 17 years. I had all the functions and tried to influence my team as much as I could to help them succeed, but I didn’t need that kind of attention.”

Buvac, who is currently serving as the Sporting Director of Russian first division club Dynamo Moscow, also added that he is not interested in a coaching job unless an offer from Barcelona comes knocking his door.

The Bosnian was replaced by Pep Lijnders as Klopp’s assistant at Liverpool, which ended the duo’s long-running partnership. With no explanation being thrown out for his exclusion, Buvac said he had not congratulated the Reds for their Premier League title victory last season.

“I didn’t. I was happy for Liverpool, the fans and the players.”

Liverpool succumbed to a humiliating 7-2 defeat against Aston Villa in the Premier League last week, and Klopp stated that his side had lost the plot against Dean Smith’s men.
