Lampard urged Tammy Abraham to focus on training

Tammy Abraham celebrating his goal against Norwich

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has urged Tammy Abraham to focus on training so that he can get back to scoring goals for the side once again.

The 22-year-old has not scored in the league since January and Lampard claims that his contract talks are not affecting his form. The youngster is going through a rough patch right now and the only way to deal with it is to work hard on the training pitch.

It will be interesting to see if Abraham can find his goalscoring touch once again this season. Chelsea need to win most of their remaining games in order to finish inside the top four and they could use his goals.

During the first half of the season, Abraham managed to score 13 goals and he caused a lot of problems for the opposition defenders.

The talent is clearly there and he will need to work on the consistency part now.

The player is in talks with the club regarding a new deal and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can sort it out soon.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lampard said: “I think Tammy’s contract, we are not at a critical level with it. I will leave it with him and the club to discuss that side of it. I don’t think it is something that is clearly in his mind now, at least it shouldn’t be.

“What needs to be in his mind now is these games we have coming up and how much he can give us on the pitch, whether coming on as a sub or starting the game. He has had a really good season, he hasn’t scored as much in the second half of the season.

“But as a young player it is always clear when you have these periods there is only one way out of it and that is work and repetition in training. I think that is where Tammy is at. I think the contract will hopefully look after itself between him and the club and he just needs to focus on giving us that Tammy that we had earlier in the season.

“He was giving defenders so much of a problem in games and scoring regularly and it all came from how he was training and working in the week. That is just what he has to sustain all the time.”
