Leeds 3-0 Southampton: Raphinha masterclass takes the Whites into the top half

Bamford-Leeds United

Leeds United picked up a comfortable 3-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League earlier tonight.

Patrick Bamford opened the scoring in the 47th minute and the home side were in complete control after that.

Stuart Dallas doubled Leeds’ advantage on the 78th minute and Raphinha wrapped up the scoring six minutes later with a stunning free-kick to secure all three points for Marcelo Bielsa’s team.

It will be interesting to see if Leeds can hold on to him beyond this season. The Brazilian has been a bargain at 17 million pounds and the top clubs will be hovering around him in the summer if he continues to perform at this level.

They could have easily increased their advantage but the likes of Helder Costa failed to hit the target after a lovely cutback from goalscorer Raphinha.

The win takes Leeds United into the top half of the table and they are just one point behind the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Southampton dropped down to 14th after picking up just 30 points from 25 matches.

The Saints have shown improvement under Ralph Hasenhuttl but they’re going through a dip in form right now. It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back strongly in the coming weeks.

A top-half finish would be a superb achievement for Leeds United in their first season back after promotion and Bielsa will be pushing his side to build on this win and climb further up the table in the coming weeks.
