Leeds United say they are ‘preparing’ for Marcelo Bielsa’s departure but Radrizzani hopes the manager will decide to stay.
Premier League club Leeds United say that they are making preparations for the departure of Marcelo Bielsa this summer as it appears that the Argentine is unwilling to extend his contract at Elland Road.
The coach who joined Leeds in 2018 is out of contract this summer after spending three seasons at the club. The former Atletico Club boss who guided the club back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence is highly thought of at the club and has been approached by the club for a contract renewal.
However, the 64-year-old is known to be averse to long-term contracts and is looking to move ahead in the summer. But Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani, along with the director of football Victor Orta, are hoping he will stay, despite making plans for his possible exit.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Radrizzani said; “Marcelo knows we are happy with him”.
“If he stays, we are really delighted to continue. If the group is happy with him, I am also happy and we should continue.
“So, it’s up to him. We wait on his decision but in any case, myself and Victor have already analysed the options and what to do in case Marcelo does not want to be with us. We hope he will continue, but in any case, we are preparing the club.
“[But] I believe this team is not finished yet, [and] Marcelo as well. They need to come and enjoy Elland Road with the fans in the Premier League. It’s what he deserves as a manager, and it’s a unique experience.”
The manager has enjoyed success at the club since replacing Paul Heckingbottom in 2018 and has endeared himself to Leeds fans with his side’s entertaining brand of football and his personal sportsmanship. His departure will certainly be a great loss for Leeds, who are looking to establish themselves in the Premier League after such a long time out.
