The midfield duo of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba put on a show against hapless Leeds United.

Manchester United’s season is off and running with an emphatic 5-1 against Leeds United at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba stole the show after the former one bagged the first hat-trick of his United career while the latter one provided four assists.

The Portuguese playmaker was the one to put the Red Devils ahead after Pogba provided a sublime pass.

Leeds came up with the equaliser after the half-time break through Luke Ayling’s stunning strike, but they were little aware of the impending misery at that time.

The visitors deserved the treatment for being sloppy in possession, and United took care of it in every possible way. In no time, United went 4-1 up with Fernandes claiming his hat-trick while Pogba completed his third assist simultaneously.

Fred put the game to bed after finding the fifth goal of the night for the Red Devils, and Pogba once again provided a delightful assist.

OIe Gunnar Solskjaer couldn’t have dreamt of such a dream start, and the win also served as a statement of intent.

The Red Devils ended up second in the title race season, putting pressure on the Norwegian manager. However, the way they have started the proceedings this term, United can be a serious contender for the Premier League title.

Pogba and Fernandes – the magical duo at work

Fernandes endured a rough campaign in Euro 2020, drawing criticism for his performances with the national team.

But he settled in quickly once he returned to the United training camp as we witnessed his brilliance – as we did throughout the last season – in the friendly win against Everton.

Tonight, the Portuguese went the extra mile to complete his first hat-trick in the United shirt.

On the other hand, Pogba was coming on the back of an exquisite European Championship campaign where he was one of the best midfielders of the tournament, although France ended up short in the round of 16.

Yet there were doubts among a section of the United fanbase if he can replicate the similar form at the club level. Today, he found a way to silence his critics by garnering three assists.

The performance was his best in the United shirt in recent memory, and the fans will be hoping to see more of it in the coming weeks.

Besides, The Old Trafford faithful were able to witness the debut of Jadon Sancho, who came in as a substitute for the Pogba in the final quarter.
