Manchester United

Manchester United will look to begin 2022 with a win when they welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils ended 2022 with a massive 1-0 win over Wolves, thanks to a goal by substitute Marcus Rashford. The win made it five wins in five competitive games for Erik ten Hag’s side, who have now leapfrogged Tottenham into the fourth position in the league table.

Ten Hag will now attempt to guide United to six straight wins for the first time since January 2019. Welcoming Bournemouth to Old Trafford gives them a great chance of doing just that, having never lost a home H2H meeting (W8, D1).

The Red Devils have also enjoyed a strong home form of late, with United unbeaten in their last eight home games (W7, D1) while conceding in just one of those matches.

Possible Manchester United starting line-up

David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw; Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Antony Matheus dos Santos, Bruno Fernandes; Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial.

Injured: Jadon Sancho, Axel Tuanzebe

Doubtful: Scott McTominay, Diogo Dalot

Suspended: None

Bournemouth

After going into the World Cup break in good form, things have gone sour for Bournemouth lately.

The festive period has not been merry for the Cherries, who have lost all three matches since the league restarted without scoring a goal.

That miserable run has coincided with the arrival of new owners and the permanent appointment of Gary O’Neil as head coach. The new boss described Bournemouth’s latest performance in a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace as the “worst I’ve seen” since taking over.

The visitors’ purple patch after O’Neil’s arrival now seems a distant memory, with just a three-point gap separating them from the relegation zone at the start of the new year.

Heading to the north is unlikely to raise spirits in the squad after Bournemouth’s losses on their travels to United’s rivals Manchester City, Liverpool and Leeds already this term, conceding an astonishing 17 goals along the way.

Possible Bournmouth starting line-up

Mark Travers; Adam Smith, Chris Mepham, Marcos Senesi, Jaidon Anthony, Jordan Zemura; Jefferson Lerma, Lewis Cook, Ryan Christie; Dominic Solanke, Kieffer Moore.

Injured: Neto, David Brooks, Philip Billing, Junior Stanislas, Ryan Fredericks, Marcus Tavernier

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
