Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has won the Premier League Manager of the month of August after guiding the Gunners to a perfect start to the season.

The Spanish boss guided Arsenal to five wins in five league games at the start of the season for the first time since 2004/05, when they were last reigning champions.

During that run, the north London club beat Crystal Palace, Leicester, Bournemouth, Fulham and Aston Villa, making them the only side to finish August with a 100% record still intact.

Not only did they win all of their August games, but Arsenal also enjoyed a positive outing in front of the goal, finding the net 13 times across the five matches. At the other end of the pitch, they conceded just four goals and kept two clean sheets.

The former Manchester City assistant coach beat Pep Guardiola, Antonio Conte, Graham Potter and Marco Silva to the manager of the month prize. The award is his third time, after previous wins in September 2021 and March 2022.

While Arteta took home the manager category, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland won the Premier League Player of the Month award.

The striker who only joined City this summer from Borussia Dortmund for £51million, scored nine goals during the month and became the 10th player to win the award in his first month in the Premier League, joining the esteemed company of Jurgen Klinsmann, Robbie Keane and Diego Costa.

Haaland opened his Man City account on the opening weekend of the season with a superb brace away at West Ham United. After drawing a blank against Bournemouth, the 22-year-old scored his third goal in City’s 3-3 draw with Newcastle United.

He then scored back-to-back hattricks as City came back to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 and in a 6-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest on the final day of August.

Haaland beat off competition from Fulham’s hitman Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was also in fine goal-scoring form in the month. Other players who were nominated include Arsenal duo Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus as well as Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
