Guardiola to sign a new deal
Manchester City recently crashed out of the Champions League semifinals after a defeat to Real Madrid and there have been rumours surrounding the long term future of manager Pep Guardiola.
Despite spending close to a billion pounds at the Premier League club, the Spanish manager has failed to deliver the Champions League trophy.
However, a report from the Star claims that Guardiola is determined more than ever to win the trophy and he will sign a new contract with Manchester City which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2025.
There is no doubt that the Spaniard is a world-class manager and he has helped Manchester City win multiple domestic honours consistently.
However, the Premier League giants will be expected to win the Champions League after their massive financial outlay.
City have been knocked out of the Champions league repeatedly over the last few years and the frustration of the fanbase is understandable.
However, Guardiola has proven his quality across multiple leagues and there is no doubt that he is the right man to leave the club beyond this season.
It will be interesting to see if the two parties can finalise the contract agreement and focus on reinforcing the squad for the next season.
De Jong on Man City’s wishlist
Meanwhile, a report from Daily Mail claims that Manchester City wants to improve their midfield options this summer and they are keen on signing the Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from Barcelona at the end of this season but manager Xavi Hernandez sees the Dutchman as a part of his long term plans.
It will be interesting to see whether Manchester City can lure the 25-year-old away from Barcelona in the coming months.
The Premier League giants certainly have the financial resources to tempt the Spanish club into selling the Dutchman and Barcelona’s financial crisis could force their hand as well.
