Szoboszlai to snub Arsenal in favour of Leipzig transfer

Liverpool and Arsenal keen to sign RB Salzburg's Dominik Szoboszlai

The Hungarian prospect has been watched by a series of top clubs.

Salzburg midfielder Dominic Szoboszlai is said to have chosen Bundesliga club Leipzig as his next destination.

According to reports, the 20-year-old is set to join Leipzig in January amidst strong interest from Europe’s top clubs.

The report also adds that a deal has been reached over a transfer move as Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund was spotted this week.

Arsenal were touted as one of the strong potential suitors for Szoboszlai while the likes of Real Madrid, Milan, Spurs had also been registered with an interest.

The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta also had handpicked the Hungarian youngster as the top target and many cited him as the natural heir to Mesut Ozil.

Szoboszlai continues to be the pivotal figure for Salzburg, who got recently admitted in the Champions League. He has racked up a total of 8 goals and 9 assists in all competitions this season and is poised to better last season’s stats.

Not only for Arsenal, but all the top European clubs could also be disappointed to let Szoboszlai join Leipzig while his price tag is around £23m.

With his transfer, the Hungarian prodigy has become one of many players to join Leipzig from the Austrian counterpart Salzburg.

It remains to be seen how Arteta would react over the failed pursuit of Szoboszlai and what are the alternatives the Spaniard could be seeking. Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar is understood to be a top target for the North Londoners despite failing to sign him in the summer transfer window.
