Chelsea have confirmed that they have agreed on a contract renewal with manager Thomas Tuchel.

The new deal will keep the German at the club until the summer of 2024 and it is hardly surprising that the manager has been offered the extension.

Tuchel has transformed Chelsea since his arrival and he has helped them win the Champions League.

The German manager was close to guiding Chelsea to an FA Cup win as well but the Blues were eventually beaten by Leicester City in the final.

Tuchel helped turn a struggling season into one of the best in the club’s history and it will be interesting to see if he can guide Chelsea to a Premier League title now.

Chelsea have improved a lot since his arrival and Roman Abramovich’ decision to sack Frank Lampard and appoint him as a replacement has been vindicated now.

Tuchel is undoubtedly one of the finest tacticians in the game right now and the Blues have lost just five matches since his arrival.

Furthermore, they have conceded just 16 goals in his 30 games in charge. The defensive organisation under Tuchel has been admirable this season and Chelsea will be hoping to build on their strong defensive foundations next year.

On the extension of his contract, Tuchel said: “I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family. There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”

The likes of Olivier Giroud and Thiago Silva have signed new contracts with the European champions as well.
