Real Madrid

Two months after winning their 35 La Liga crown and 14th European Cup title, Real Madrid will look to be crowned the UEFA Super Cup champions for the fifth time when they take on Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt in Helsinki.

The Spanish giants enjoyed a memorable run to the Champions League final last season, beating Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City on their way to the final. They now beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool 1-0 in Paris to lift the trophy.

With this game heralding the beginning of another Champions League season, Los Blancos will come into this game looking to set the pace for the season. This game will be their first official game of the season given that La Liga has not yet started.

This game will also be another opportunity for Los Blancos to try out their summer signings, Aurélien Tchouameni and Antonio Rüdiger, who have both joined from Monaco and Chelsea, respectively. The pair will be seeking to make their official debuts on Wednesday evening.

Possible Real Madrid starting line-up

Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Antonio Rüdiger, David Alaba; Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Luka Modric; Rodrigo, Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior.

Frankfurt

Frankfurt enjoyed a memorable 2021/22 season in Europe as they went through the entire Europa League campaign unbeaten on their way to winning the Europa League for the second time.

The Eagles defeated Barcelona and West Ham on the way before winning the trophy courtesy of a penalty shoot-out over Scottish side Rangers.

They will look to crown their effort in Europe last season with a win in this competition. However, they come into this tie on the back of a disappointing 6-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

But given that they haven’t lost in UEFA competition since a 2019/20 Europa League last-16 reverse to Basel, they will fancy their chances of pulling off a shock win against Madrid in Helsinki.

Meanwhile, head coach Oliver Glasner goes into this game without defenders Jérôme Onguéné and Aurélio Buta.

Possible Frankfurts starting line-up

Kevin Trapp; Almamy Toure, Tuta, Evan N’Dicka; Ansgar Knauff, Djibril Sow, Sebastian Rode, Filip Kostic; Jesper Lindstrom, Mario Gotze; Santos Borre.

Injured: Jérôme Onguéné and Aurélio Buta

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
