Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 1-1 draw against Schalke in the Bundesliga yesterday.

The home side will be relieved to have come away with something from the game.

Schalke were the better side overall and they were very close to winning yesterday. Daniel Caligiuri had given them the lead from the penalty spot in the second half.

However, Juan Miranda scored an own goal nine minutes from time.

David Wagner’s men have not won a Bundesliga game since mid-January and they will be very disappointed to have dropped points here.

It was a golden opportunity for them to grind out a result.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen had the chances to score but the likes of Lucas Alario and Charles Aranguiz failed to convert.

The home side will be thoroughly disappointed with their performance against a weaker side. Schalke are badly out of form and Leverkusen should have made the most of this opportunity.

They are fighting for a place in the Champions League next season and they cannot afford to slip up like this.

It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back in their next game.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen are now fourth in the table, five points behind third placed Leipzig. As for Schalke, they are ninth after failing to win their last 13 games.
