Atalanta have suffered another home defeat this season

Sampdoria have stunned Atalanta in Serie A away game, with Quagliarella, Thorsby and Jankto finding the scoresheet.

The hosts had a great chance to take the lead at the start from the skipper Papu Gomez, who managed to fire his shot wide, stumbling to the ground.

Later, Sampdoria was successful with their counter-attack as Fabio Quagliarella broke the deadlock after a fine left-footed finish.

The Sampdoria skipper could have doubled the tally but he missed a penalty, which was awarded by VAR.

Around the hour-mark, the visitors scored the second goal following Morten Thorsby’s perfectly timed header from the cross of Jakub Jankto.

Atalanta had the faintest chance when Duvan Zappata scored from the spot-kick when the game entered the final ten minutes.

Jankto wound up the game for Atalanta after scoring a goal in the injury time.

This is the second time Atalanta have been beaten at home, first against Napoli.

Claudio Ranieri’s men have now defeated both Lazio and Atalanta in their last two Serie A fixtures despite starting the season unconvincingly.

Quagliarella has now scored four goals in Serie A this season, currently among the league’s top goal scorers.

For Bergamo outfit, they have failed to build on from the win against Midtjylland in the Champions League earlier this week. Atalanta won the game 4-0 but have failed to make an impact today against Sampdoria.
