The Lazio striker scored his 36th goal in the 3-1 defeat against Napoli.

Ciro Immobile has won the European Golden shoe, outplaying the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo in the process.

The 31-year-old has managed to equal the record of highest goals scored in a Serie A season with 36 – alongside Gonzalo Higuain (2015/16).

The Italian has become the first player to win the Golden shoe in 11 years other than Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Immobile also has three Capocannoniere – the award for the highest goal scorer in the league – under his belt, winning the first one with Torino in 2014.

Juventus talisman Ronaldo had the chance to beat Immobile in the race, but he passed it up in the defeat against Cagliari.

Immobile has now bagged a total of 125 goals in 178 appearances with Lazio, joining them in 2016. He is currently third in the list of the club’s all-time top goalscorers and will look to make history next season.

The former Torino man has reflected on winning the Golden shoe award, saying that it was a dream come true moment.

Immobile said, “I am super happy and proud of what I’ve achieved, especially when I look back to where I started and everything I went through.”

“I can only thank the coach and staff, my team-mates, and I can assure you these records are for the whole team.”

Biancocelesti have finished fourth in Serie A this season despite being second in the table before the pandemic break.
