Sampdoria

Sampdoria host AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico Luigi Ferraris in Serie A on Sunday looking to build on their latest win.

The hosts beat promoted Venezia 2-0 before heading into the international break, so ending a run of three consecutive top-flight defeats.

Although the win also opened up a seven-point gap between them and the relegation zone, Marco Giampaolo’s side face another huge test against Jose Mourinho’s side.

With no real relegation threat, La Samp will come into this encounter under less pressure than their visitors, who have their eyes set on making it into the European League places.

Meanwhile, Manolo Gabbiadini has been ruled out of the campaign with a cruciate ligament rupture he suffered in February.

Head coach Marco Giampaolo may be left to field the team that beat Venezia in their last game before the international break.

Possible Sampdoria starting line-up

Emil Audero; Bartosz Bereszyński, Alex Ferrari, Omar Colley, Nicola Murru; Morten Thorsby, Albin Ekdal, Antonio Candreva; Stefano Sensi, Abdelhamid Sabiri; Francesco Caputo.

Injured: Manolo Gabbiadini

Doubtful: None

AS Roma

AS Roma brushed aside Lazio in the Derby della Capitale last time out and they return to action, this Sunday, looking to keep momentum on their top-six challenge.

The hosts took a three-goal lead inside the first half in the clash with Lazio, with Tammy Abraham grabbing the first of the game. Lazio were stunned into submission as Jose Mourinho’s team strode to a 3-0 victory which extended their unbeaten run to nine games.

Also, the Giallorossi have won three of their last four matches, their last longest streak came six years ago when they went 10 consecutive games without defeat. Jose Mourinho will be keen to break that record and ensure his team continue their successful streak.

AS Roma have also kept four clean sheets in their last six matches, and things seem to be coming together for the capital club heading into the end of the season.

They now sit sixth in the Serie A standings, two points above Lazio, and Level with fifth-placed Atalanta.

The visitors are also fighting for silver on the continental front as they are set to face Bodo Glimt in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, so the Giallorossi will not want to lose momentum by stumbling on Sunday.

Leonardo Spinazzola, who hasn’t played a single minute in Roma’s 2021-2022 season after suffering an Achilles tendon rupture at Euro 2020 with Italy, remains the only unavailable player for Jose Mourinho who may field the same team that crushed Lazio two weeks ago.

Possible AS Roma starting line-up

Rui Patricio; Gianluca Mancini, Roger Ibanez, Chris Smalling; Rick Karsdorp, Sergio Oliveira, Bryan Cristante, Nicola Zalewski; Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Lorenzo Pellegrini; Tammy Abraham.

Injured: Leonardo Spinazzola
