Torino

Torino saw their fine run of form brought to a crushing halt last time out when they were beaten by Bologna.

After recording back-to-back victories against Udinese and AC Milan at the end of October, the hosts were cruising towards a third consecutive win at Bologna last time out after Sasa Lukic had given them the lead in the first half from the penalty spot. But second-half goals from Riccardo Orsolini and Stefan Posch for the hosts meant Ivan Juric’s men left Stadio Renato Dall’Ara with nothing.

That result also means the Turin club were unable to move above an in-form Salernitana in the Serie A standings, and so they come into this tie sitting 10th in the table having collected 17 points from their opening 13 matches.

Last season, Lukic’s side finished inside the top half of the division and so their aim this season is to push towards the host of big Italian clubs fighting for seven coveted European places.

But trying to break into that top six or top seven places in the league looks like a big ask, as even though Torino have won two of their last three league matches, they are still eight points off sixth-placed Roma as the World Cup break approaches.

Even their home form does not suggest that they can be considered top seven contenders, as they have managed only eight points and four goals in their six matches in front of their home faithful so far this season.

Possible Torino starting line-up

Vanja Milinković-Savić; Koffi Djidji, Perr Schuurs Ricardo Rodriguez; Mergim Vojvoda, Sasa Lukic, Karol Linetty, Valentino Lazaro; Alexey Miranchuk, Nemanja Radonjic; Antonio Sanabri.

Injured: Pietro Pellegri, Ola Aina

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Sampdoria

It keeps getting worse for Sampdoria who remain rooted in the relegation zone after 13 rounds of games in the Serie A this season.

After alternating between ninth and 15th-place finishes in Serie A over the past four seasons, Dejan Stankovic’s struggling side are in a full-scale relegation battle to maintain a top-flight status they have held since the 2012-13 season.

The visitors come into this tie on the back of a 2-0 loss to Fiorentina. The result made it two games without a goal for Stankovic’s men who sit 19th in the league, having amassed just six points in their opening 13 fixtures (W1, D3, L9). They have scored a mere six times during that period, the fewest number of goals in the division by a considerable distance.

However, having secured their only win of the season recently against recently-promoted Cremonese, they will feel that they could get something from this tie. They have the talent and quality to do that too, having averaged more than 50% possession this season.

Possible Sampdoria starting line-up

Emil Audero; Bartosz Bereszynski, Jeison Murillo, Omar Colley, Nicola Murru; Manolo Gabbiadini, Ronaldo Vieira, Tomas Rincon, Valerio Verre; Filip Djuricic; Francesco Caputo.

Injured: Bruno Amione, Harry Winks

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Mehdi Leris
