Italian football is known for his defensive nature and the quality of defenders the country has produced over the time. Nonetheless, there are a handful of attackers who have etched a legendary career like Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero. Here we take a look at the top ten goal scorers in Serie A of all time.

1.Silvio Piola ( 267 goals)

Silvio Piola is often cited as the greatest striker in the history of Italian football. Although he hadn’t won a single Scudetto during his career, he still tops the list of the most goals scored in the Italian top-flight (267 goals). His biggest achievement was winning the FIFA World Cup with the Italian national team.

2.Francesco Totti (250 goals)

Spending his entire career at AS Roma, Totti is cited as one of the best players of his generation. He led the Giallorossi to the Serie A title in 2001 and the Azzurri to the World Cup glory in 2006. Totti is often cited as one of the exponents of the false 9.

3. Gunnar Nordahl (224 goals)

The Swedish striker was the driving force behind AC Milan’s Serie A title wins in the 50’s and also the best centre-forward of his time.

4. Giuseppe Meazza ( 214 goals)

The Italian legend spent almost half of his career at Inter Milan, leading them to three Serie A titles. He is best known for winning the FIFA World Cup twice with the Italian national team. He was inducted to Inter’s Hall of fame in 2019.

5. Jose Altafini (213 goals)

The Brazilian-born footballer was known for his wide array of skill set that made him one of the top strikers of his time. He won the Serie A titles two times with both AC Milan and Juventus and also a World Cup trophy with Brazil in 1958.

6. Antonio Di Natale (209 goals)

An under-rated striker of the last decade, Antonio Di Natale managed to rack up goals even in a relatively underperforming side Udinese. The Italian striker is currently managing Serie C side Carrarese.

7. Robert Baggio (205 goals)

The Italian legend represented a handful of Serie A clubs during his career but never failed to show his quality. His best ever stint came with Juventus, with whom he won the league title in 1994-95 and UEFA Cup in 1992-93. 

8. Giuseppe Signori (188 goals)

Signori was another prolific striker who spent his career playing for a handful of clubs in Italy. He was part of the Italian national team that finished as runners up of 1994 World Cup.

9. Alessandro Del Piero (188 goals)

Regarded as the best player in Juventus’ history, Del Piero is also the Old Lady’s record goalscorer. He was the key figure behind Juve’s dominance in Serie A during the late 90s and 2000s. He also won the World Cup with the Italian national team in 2006.

10. Kurt Hamrin (188 goals)

The Swedish forward played for several Italian clubs during his career but best known for his time at Fiorentina, where he made around 300 appearances and notched up 150 goals. He helped La Viola win two Coppa Italia titles and an UEFA Cup winners’ Cup.
